Here are some of the many real and tangible ways we bring the wisdom of the Gospel to Haiti.

Sheep Program

True Shepherd's sheep program partners with the Nazarene church in the North West district. We ask each church and its board to come up with 12-15 names of families or individuals who have the most need among their members. True Shepherd then provides a female sheep to each of these families who in turn are trained to care for the animal. The first lamb is given back to the church as a First Fruit offering to God. The second lamb then goes to the family or individual, the third goes back to the church, and so on. We encourage each family to rear a flock and so make a sustainable income. read more

adult training school

The adult training school is now in its third year and has been a huge success. Many individuals across the region are hoping for an opportunity to attend. Each student pays a small fee each month to help cover the cost of things like materials and instructor pay, but more funding is needed for this project to continue into the future. We pray and trust that the Lord will provide for this incredible opportunity. These classes are a simple yet impactful stepping stone to a brighter future for these students. Having a skill provides them with an edge when it comes to finding work or starting a small business.  True Shepherd has partnered with 89 churches across the NW region, and places at this school are at a premium. However, the goal is to help those most in need. To ensure that we achieve this outcome, Pastors of the home churches will be choosing individuals from their congregations to attend. Classes include sewing, from simple repair to full-scale clothing production, as well as computer classes which are as important in Haiti as they are in the USA. Students attend theses classes 2-3 days a week and receive one meal each day they attend. Many travel incredible distances to attend. Those who have the greatest commutes are permitted to sleep in the church during the portion of the week they attend class.

Mobile Clinic

In 2013, True Shepherd built a clinic in Bouflette in partnership with So Cal Nazarene Church. We provided rooms, medicine, and a full time nurse to provide care for those in need. However, we learned over time how difficult travel can be in Haiti, especially for those who are sick or injured. So we adapted, and now the clinic is mobile! This is a huge blessing to many across the region where health care often requires both travel and money. True Shepherd is different — the clinic comes to you! We travel to the most remote villages and towns in the region, where no one else can or wants to go. For a small patient fee, you can see a nurse, receive basic medication and medical advice, and be prayed over. Not only is the clinic now able to reach more of the people it was intended to help, but the original building now houses the adult training school! Grace on top of grace!

It can't be overstated what a blessing the clinic is for the region. When word gets around that the clinic is coming, people walk many miles to be part of it, painting a picture straight out of the gospel. Much of the health care issues in the region stem from poor diet and lack of water which produces all kinds of ailments, one of the most common being high blood pressure. Because the North West region of Haiti is often neglected by other organizations, including the Haitian government, need in this region is astronomically high. The people here not only lack food and water, but the spiritual food we each need and crave. When funding allows, we give bibles to patients and pastors to help nourish the soul and transform circumstances.

Classic School

True shepherd provides funding and leadership support for an elementary school in Bouflette of approximately 70 students, from pre K to 7th grade. Funding for education is such a difficult subject in Haiti. Most or all of the income a school receives comes from parents of the students. During these hard times, that can be difficult for any family to provide. Unfortunately, it’s the compassionate teachers who bare the brunt of the financial short fall…. read more

Church Shops

We believe that a shop can bring solutions to the problem of sustainable funding. We partner with the North Western Nazarene District comprised of 89+ churches. Each church has a board that oversees the business of the church and in most cases a church school. The income from the church shop is overseen by the church board who makes financial and budgetary decisions based on what they believe is right for their own community. In this way, we empower local leadership to take charge and invest in their own local communities. read more

Water Projects

Clean drinking water is a major issue across the world, no more so than in NW Haiti. Finding a source of water, especially during the long summer months can be a real challenge. Municipal water holes can have sporadic availablity, the rivers can dry up and collected rain water supplies in cisterns can get low. True Shepherd is committed to help provide water trucks when needed, that provide thousands of gallons of water. We partner with the community on projects to capture and pipe water in from other local springs. We also provide Sawyer water filters, to clean and filter water from the rivers etc, so it is safe to drink.
